Margaret Mahy died yesterday. She was a prolific author of books with supernatural and fantasy themes. The NZ Herald describes her as a giant of children’s literature, which is a good indicator of where her reputation in the field stands. Further tributes can be found on Stuff.
Mahy won many awards including the 2006 Hans Christian Andersen Author Award. In 2006 she was also awarded the Sir Julius Vogel Award for Services to Science Fiction and Fantasy. She was a guest at the 1996 NZ national SF Convention.
