In early December 2010, Fred Fastier, inaugural Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Otago, donated a 1200 strong collection of Science Fiction titles (magazines and books) to the Special Collections, University of Otago. This collection forms the basis of the exhibition ‘Ray Guns & Rocket Ships. The Fred Fastier Science Fiction Collection’, which begins in the de Beer Gallery, Special Collections, University of Otago, on 23 March 2012 and runs through to 15th June 2012. Hours: 8.30 to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday

The New Dowse art gallery in Lower Hutt will be holding an exhibition of Science Fiction and Fantasy artwork called White Cloud Worlds. This exhibition will run from 11 December 2010 – 13 March 2011.
White Cloud Worlds features the work of artists who have been involved on such projects as Lord of The Rings, Avatar, Wizards of the Coast and Marvel Comics. The exhibition includes sketches, concept drawings, finished prints, sculpture and oil on canvas work. The exhibition is in conjunction with the publication of the book of the same name, described as “An Anthology Of Science Fiction And Fantasy Artwork From Aotearoa New Zealand”.
White Cloud Worlds is “An Anthology Of Science Fiction And Fantasy Artwork From Aotearoa New Zealand”. It has been produced by Weta and publishers Harper Collins. It is available now for pre-order for shipping in November. A limited boxed edition is also available.
In association with the launch of this book, The New Dowse art gallery in Lower Hutt will be holding an exhibition of the works from this book. This exhibition, also called “White Cloud Worlds” will run from 11 December 2010 – 13 March 2011.
